So the FAA released a brief article about laser pointers and how much has the report of accidents have increased for the past 8 or so years . To those out there misusing your laser , please STOP IT ALREADY ! Heres the link ! Laser Safety Initiative

OF COURSE they are spouting the same old lies yet again. The green illuminated cockpit video is FAKE, it was not shot in flight or even on a real aircraft. It was shot in a SIMULATOR on the ground and it's doubtful the light is even laser light.

I question what they say about the pilot losing orientation during a turn or whatever; don't they have instruments that show their altitude and attitude? Don't they look at them once in a while?

I stand by my stance that it's largely pilots being complainers, as they often are (my uncle flew for United for decades, and that is what he told me); the minute they don't get what they want they cry and complain. I maintain that commercial and especially airline pilot training should include training to deal with laser pointers. They know it's going to happen, so they can and should PLAN AHEAD for it.

Thing is, if the government were actually truthful and showed accurate video footage, nobody would care because the reality is that the pilot sees a little beam of light and maybe a flash. Try holding your pointer steady on even a stationary target, not so easy.

I think pointing a laser at any non-consenting person, especially anyone in a vehicle, or operating machinery, is stupid and wrong, and so should we all. But I also think it's wrong of the government to blatantly lie and distort the truth, and generally display its utter contempt for the people.

Yes you have a point ! They exaggerate a little bit when i comes to lasers!. You said that aircrafts have attitude and altitute and all the gizmos needed to land the aircraft and, it is true if you are talking about big corpoarate aircrafts or at least the modern ones, so heres the catch, theres people out there including some companies that are still flying little cessnas 172 , twin engine passenger airplanes, that dont have those gizmos so in that case a laser will problably confuse the pilot on its possition and landing area and even the co pilot could get eye distortion. The pilots do their job in informing the faa of any incident, yes they cry a lot but thats how it is.

There is a very low chance that lasers will actually bring a plane down. They are concerned about lasers distracting the pilot, when airplanes are on autopilot 90% of the time anyway. You do have a great point tho, lasers can really effect small plane pilots because they don't have autopilot. People just need to avoid airplanes so the feds cant complain!!!!!

I don't see why it's even an issue unless the plane it taking off, landing, or preparing to land. how could you harm a plane cruising at 10,000 feet with even a 5W laser? how could it directly hit the cockpit window unless the plane is being flown upside down by denzel washington?

I think the reason they have pilots report not just getting hit by one, but even just seeing one, is so they can get that annual attack number as inflated as possible so they can justify a ban.

airlines have lobbyists, laser hobbyists don't. lobbyist could be a contraction of laser hobbyist. who shall we send to congress, and how much can we give them to bribe with?:crackup:
