I e-mail customs and they gave me this reply:

Thank you for your email enquiry. Currently laser pointer
devices are not controlled under the Customs (Prohibited Imports)
Regulations 1956, therefore permission to import these items is not
required.

I would encourage you to check with Customs for any future importations
of laser pointer devices. If you haven't already done so, you should
contact the police in your State/Territory to ensure there is no
restriction on you possessing the laser pointer devices. Please note
that the goods will need to be fully declared on importation into
Australia and Customs Duty/GST may be required.

If you are unsure of whether an item requires import permission or not,
please forward pictures of the item to weaponspolicy@customs.gov.au and
we can advise if import permission is required.

this means that if we act now we can get some last lasers imported befor the ban becomes active.

SO EXCITED ;D ;D ;D

Is this true for the state of NSW?

Perhaps it's only illegal to import to NSW for now.

Could you reply and find out?

Yeah carulli, different states have different laws. What state are we talking here?

Either way though, time is ticking. 1 month to go before they get illegal. Time for some more impulse buying! :D

I feel so sorry for you chaps in Australia. Its funny how the ignorant masses let a few arrogant lawmakers run shotgun on the rest of us.
Here in Oregon we used to be able to buy guns, any guns besides full auto, at "gun shows". People from all over America would come with tables full of little boxes of new guns. You lay down your cash and walk out with your new gun. Someone thought all the gang violence and robberies were being committed by guns bought at gun shows. So they outlawed sales without a background check. Gang violence is still rampant and robberies still happen.

;D That bet my triple post  >:( lol

Yeah nows your chance, stock up on your RPL's and PPL's

Starting to wish I had $445 dollars for a PPL, oooh I forgots 7.5% ( or is it 7% ? ) discount  ;D I still want one though, Will just have to wait till I get a job or till my birthday / christmas  ;D

Anyway, I hope you people in AU manage to get some agreement for hobbyists or something .

I can understand why the ban came about though. Who really uses high powered lasers? No one, except for astronomers and other workers( who can acquire exemptions) and few and far between hobbyists. Trying to control sales would be absolutely stupid, and wouldnt get anywhere, and the safety of pilots and the hundreds of thousands of passangers that ride aircrafts is more valuable then a few peoples hobby. Im not sure if this ban will have a large effect, but green lasers will drop out completely(unless someone can make them on their own :o) which are probally the largest threat... just some thoughts

But this ban won't even stop the plane attacks because the idiots who are doing this already have the lasers and will (big surprise) continue shining them at planes because law enforcement isn't catching them.

"IF" I were going to try to down a plane it wouldnt be with a friggin laser beam. For that matter you could use a big mirror and shine it into the eyes of pilots with the sun.
I still think the guys who did this need some laser genital branding.
