Laserdiode used or new ? How get the this info ?

hi,

a german user on ebay sells "New" M140 diodes from unused DLP.
I have bought three diodes and ALL diodes does not work with 1,2A (the laserpower is betwwen 30mW and 120mW.
At 1,6A the laserpower is lower than 10mW ... turning the current to 1,2A again the laser output is greter than 50mW.

i think this laser diodes ar used and at the and of the life time.
How can i check this ?

Interesting it must be used, or damaged ,Or it could be the driver what batteries did you use did you check the driver and adjusted it to 1.2A,
when the laser is on do not adjust the pedometer on the driver it could kill the diode turn off the laser adjust it and turn the laser back on.

the driver is okay ... with a other (new M140) it works fine (output 1800mW)

i test it with a lab power supply (adjustable current)

Unfortunatly you kind of have to rely on the seller since they are all pulls there is not really any way of just looking at one specially a dead one and figure if it had a butch of hours already on it. If you can rule out with certainty your driver, build process and power source and you get several failing you may be having issues with the diode itself but really there are so many things and with the limited info posted it is hard to make any good troubleshooting suggestions.

Some more details on your specific laser driver, power source and the method used to set it all up can give us some ideas of common issues you can check. Can you let us know the specific type of laser driver being used. You say it is an adjustable laser driver do you have a test load as you said you used a lab power supply to test it but not sure what that means. Maybe a picture of how you are connecting everything like is the connection between the diode and driver a soldered and secure one with nothing in between. No quick connects, clips, twisted leads or maybe a meter in series with the output of the driver.

One thing you can make sure is to look at the back of the diode and confirm if it is a A or M type diode. The M will have the circle above the bar code.:beer:

There is a link for this diode with no solder on it. I'll check and post in a few.

Edit: this is a link for the same diode used in the M140 projectors. I have purchased them many times and they are the real deal, but are $46.55: a bit spendy. www.ebay.com/itm/261188986592
