hi guys. i know many of you here knows many things about lasers so im asking a little help. i just came across a video in youtube wer this guy assembles this laser thing using a regular flashlight and a laser diode kinda thing and a thing from a dvd burner and put em all together, the laser can pop a baloon or light a match or hurt someone i suppose. my question is, is there any chance that i could buy a laser pointer with this kinda features in the market? (pop a baloon kinda features) what's this particular laser pointer called? how much does this cost? hope you guys can help me. tnx!

First of all Welcome,

Yes you can.. people in this forum are very helpful in specific information. Do you know what you are looking for, there are the main 4 colored lasers, red, green, yellow and blue lasers (ranked by wavelength). there is also IR (infared) and UV (ultraviloet) laser but these are not as common and are more dangerous since the laser is invisible (dot and beam). Each have there pros and cons. green lasers are very visable where as blue lasers are much more powerful.. and red are just fun beginner projects (still has burning power of corse)

Are you thinking of making a "project laser" or are you interested in comercially built lasers.

If you need a "project laser" I suggest getting in touch with jayrob... he is a respected LPF member and has custom kits and all sorts of goodies... "project lasers" cost any where from a couple of $ to well over 100-200$$... depending on the laser u want to make and its power ect..

But if you want an already built option go for dragon lasers, DX or any other respected and trustworthy website... If you read around the forum you pick up alot of tips and sources of info... If you need any more help pm me or leave a post here...

I think I know what you are looking for, a cheap red laser that can pop balloons etc right? Yes, it does exist, it's called the "dilda" by us and I hope you understand why when you see the photos

It's sold by MANY companies but you should stick with one of these: dealextreme or O-like.

Dealextreme sells it at 40$ and O-like at 45$. The differences are two: O-like provides batteries and charger and Dealextreme not. If you are going to use rechargeables (you better do this because 2 CR2 cells at your local store will cost you 10$+) buy from O-like. Also, O-like makes sure the power is at least 180mW and from dealextreme you can get 150mW. The more power the more it burns, so better stick with O-like. Also, and very important, if you live in USA dealextreme will not ship to you.

Yes, this laser is cheap, powerfull etc... There's no trick. Most of us have it and most of the ones who haveit have bought it from O-like, there are hundreds of reviews of this laser. Just use the serach button: "dilda" and you will get them all.

You might see there are two versions of this laser, both are the same with different look, just choose the one that looks better. (I prefer old-style)

180~200mW Red laser/ adjustable foucus£>5~200mw Red laser pointer£>Laser&lighting products£>www.0-like.com
New style 180~200mW red laser focusable£>5~200mw Red laser pointer£>Laser&lighting products£>www.0-like.com

Video of me showing it's abilities:

Belive me, there are not cheaper lasers that can do this, (Infrared ofc, but I supose you don't one an invisible laser xD).

Albert

I think you have found the well-known kipkay laser (not) hack.

We make our lasers alot differently to him thats why his are BAD.

We use thing called a "driver" what it does is it stops too much "current" (power) going to the "laser diode" (thing that makes the laser light) and if too much "current" goes to the "laser diode" the "laser diode" won't work anymore meaning you have to buy another but if you use a "driver" your laser will keep on working for along time.

So just don't do what that guy did kthksbabe.

Oh and the dilda is a great laser highly suggest it :) and it has a driver!

Maybe you could buy just the components, and assemble the whole thing yourself. It's not that hard, I managed to do it on first try :)

@Eku: The "Comittee" of "Unneccesary" "Quotation Marks" would have a field day on your post :D

yes, building it yourself can give you even a better result than the dilda for aboutthe same price, but... 45$ for a fully assambled 200mW red laser is still a bargain xD

*just makin a correction, bobhaha mentioned wickedlasers as one of the trusted websites. DO NOT buy from wickedlasers. they dont give you the kind of laser they say they do on their website. its usually underspec. so ya. good luck! =]

Holy FREAKING crap. You know that little message on the top of the screen that tells you to read the "Basic FAQ's- read before posting"? Well, you should have read them.
