laser module help

I bought a 100mw laser module to put into a pen style host and cannot figure out what the black wire does, or where it goes?

It looks just like this but I'm not sure what the purpose of the wire is for and if so how would I get it to work with 2 aaa batteries?

LOL never mind turns out I was using batteries that were too low...

I got the module in the pen host and it's working great!

The wire looks like it's for positive, the module case is also positive.

I'm not sure how it fits into play. I thought it was a negative for the pen style case that it was going into. Like a ground for the metal host...

It was a 100mw blu ray laser module from RayFoss. I just want to say they have the best customer service! I told them it was going into the pen style host, and they were able to stop it from being shipped. They took it back to the tech to make the small change for the pen host.

It works great and is very bright.
