Laser Eye Damage

well on the topic of eye damage i was wondering, how likely is it to receive eye damage from being hit in the eye from a powerful laser like a 1000mw blue laser from far away,,like perhaps 500-1000 feet away? can that harm you? i have been blasted by someone Arctic laser when they were shining it from the opposite end of a street, probably 500 feet or so away,, i mean permanent damage not temporary blindness where i may crash my car if it happens kind of thing, i already know that is a danger.

dang thats a good chart,, and perfect to show why its dangerous to planes even at high altitudes... so i should be good with damage danger as long as im not driving if its pretty far away

yep, and we are taking the absolute worst case scenario .
Most high power lasers are multi-mode and have a divergence of around 1.5 and up .
Futher lowering the intensity at range
 
true i considered that and pretty much matched my 1.6 W laser to the 1 W one due to divergence ,, just wanted to get a general idea but basically most eye damage will happen within a neighborhood sized area at most.. the rest is flash danger
 
oook!
It appears I am now eating my words.
I was playing with my lasers a few minutes back.
Was shining into the horizon and beyond through the window...
As I was scanning the horizon , the laser struck the window frame.... the diffused rays flashblinded me for a moment as if it was flash photography ....
Its better now and the color has returned , but I have a little deep purple , almost black spot in my vision that appears everytime I blink.......
