o, and it took about 2-3 minutes to make, I had to stop and let laser cool down, then keep going, so when I say 2-3, is without couting the time I stoped to let laser cool down

Good idea. I've actually considered building a setup similar, but more complex. I was thinking that the laser would be on a horizontal two axis system with a regular ink pen being the guide. Essentially, whatever is drawn with the ink, is engraved into the plastic.

The tank looks good, but it would be for bigger stuff. Ill buy one and try to put laser in somehow.

Here is an idea, take a plotter like the HP 7475 and mount your diode in the place where one of the plotter pens would be, you could then steer it with a program like Autocad. Or save the rails and stepper motor assemblies from your dvdrw's you have harvested diodes from and you can build yourself a mini plotter to do this

I did this with a P125 on the black case and I have owned that very same tripod. I'd just use your hand and write like a pen, the tripod wasn't that good, maybe because it was a fake but still.

I could make another small DIY red burner and attach it to the chuck of my CNC milling machine, then draw a 2D shape on the PC and get it laser etched! I might have to keep stopping every few mins due to the duty cycle.
