It's just not a wise thing to be shining your laser at moving lights in the night sky since it could be a plane or some other type of aircraft and is illegal to do so.

Shining your laser at UFOS in the night sky = a hefty fine and and some quiet time with your new boyfriend Bubba or an alien anal probe - priceless!
 
Heck and with all this hyped up fear about terrorism..they may even throw a terrorism charge at you...try'n to bring down a plane with (tabloids exagerrating) "several watt or killowatt laser" when in fact its 1w or less.
