laser damage

Yes i would go with a bluefan basic lpm, they go up to 2W and are a good price. I was saving for an ophir head but it seems they are going up in price and not going to come back down.

hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum not because i love lasers haha, but because some irresponsible *enter curseword in your native language here* decided it would be funny to shoot a green laser at random people's eyes. I was walking home one day when i saw something green and didn't really pay attention to it and the next thing I knew.. WHAM.. it felt like getting hit by a green truck (in the eye). It felt like I got hit for a long time, but it was probably under a second. He shot it from the other side of the street so I guess it was a strong one.
After that my head started to hurt so bad that I went to the hospital (emergency room since it was nighttime). And after they put some ointment in my eye (to prevent dry eyes) they told me to come back tomorrow to see the specialist.
He checked out my eyes with the magnifying thingie and a bright light that felt like the sun and said he could not see any damage. He said I kind of dodged a bullet since the laser hit me at an angle it "missed" the important part of my retina.
My vision was blurry for a couple of days and I couldn't stand daylight or my computer screen, so it was a boring time.

After that I thought I had healed but then came the aftermath. My eyes became extremely irritated and after a day I figured it was probably because they became really dry. I had problems with everything, reading, watching, eye movement hurt, even blinking. I couldn't stand daylight so I had to stay home for a while.
I bought some eyedrops and they have been improving steadily. I think its been 3 weeks or so and my eyes still hurt if I use them too much and also when I forget to use my eyedrops. I don't have as many headaches anymore. I just wish the specialist warned me against dry eyes so that I could have prevented them.

That was my story, sorry if it was long and boring.

Does anybody know how long it will take for my eyes to heal, have similar experiences or advice?

Thanks so much!

Hm well the headaches after looking into a strong light source can be normal. I´m getting this too sometimes when looking into strong light sources.

But a laser hit will not cause all the other side effects. In worst case your retina gets demaged and you will see a blind point, but this will even not hurt.

The side effects you are describing here are more an reaction to the medical threatment you got in the hospital. So more likely InfinitusEquitas already pointed out.

I too love lasers but due to its side effects I never thought of using it. I always go to the market to get a laser for me but the fear encircles my mind and I always return home bare handed...

Actually you'll know someone's shining an IR laser at your eye when you here a "pop!" And your eyeball fries. But seriously I think IR will do that.

It would have to be a very powerful IR laser, certainly not handheld.

The Retina itself has no pain receptors, so a lower powered IR laser, like 100mW let say, should have no immediately apparent result, except of course that it's destroying the retina...

You also wouldn't be aware of it since you can't see IR light.

This is what makes IR lasers so dangerous, and why so many people forego getting them as pointers. You can be doing incredible damage to your eye, and not even notice it until well after the fact.

Someone shined a 5mW pretty much directly into my eye once about a second and a half.. no problems

Is that an fair price? I'm just starting up with selling lasers and want to get involved in the community.

its a too good to be true price,, the place certainly is selling underspec lasers for example 1 W green could be more like $1000 still the store is like your typical non metered chinese store and could be a cheap laser store depending on what the quality turns out to be.

also is that your store? or are you just a sales associate for it ?

A person/user that pretends to sell a 1000mw green laser for $70 is someone that knows very little of lasers and haven't read 1% of the context of this forum (no ofense).
There is no reasonable user here that would ever believe that.
You would have a very hard time to find a 1W blue laser for $70.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I hope your eye recovers soon and you can put this behind you. Most of us (at least here) are more responsible with these extremely dangerous gadgets.

Any recourse to the jerk that shined the laser at you? Frankly, if that happened to me...well, there would have been a confrontation :)
