Laser burns underwater!!!

Look again: it's submerged in water. :)

Well, I've just done the impossible. :thinking: Sharpie, and a cup made out of paper. A 445nm laser at 1.3A makes a hole small enough so that it leaks slowly.
Like I said, try it yourself if you think it's BS. :)

It works for the same reason you can weld under water or stick your hand briefly into liquid nitrogen. The steam creates a barrier between the surface and the liquid. I believe it's called the leidenfrost effect.

I saw something in a small amount of some kind of liquid that
crackled but was not aware of what the liquid was.
Thanks for clearing that up.:)

That is more of what I was asking about. So you were able
to burn a small hole in a water filled paper cup by adding a
3rd element (Black Sharpie Ink)....

Very interesting... I would not have thought it would..
Again thanks for the experiment and clearing that up...:beer:

BTW.... where do you keep reading that I keep saying
something was BS....:thinking:

@benmwv
Yes.... that is exactly what I meant...;)

What is the kitty litter trick you folks were talking about? Is it related to the baking soda trick? And what is the baking soda trick? Is that you, John Wayne?

Ive done that with Cannabis Vodka, There were seeds in the bottom of a 10ml bottle so I decided to use my 100mW on it just for kicks, and it made a ratling noise :)
