Laser Based Non-Contact High Voltage detection/measurement system

Basically they are using the Faraday effect which causes a polarization shift when a laser beam passes through a magnetic field to measure the amplitude of the voltage differential at the target. The more the beam's polarization is shifted, the higher the voltage present at the target.

Interesting....
No good for our low voltage uses though..

They said it could only measure up to a few feet
from the voltage source and only in the Hundreds
of Thousands of volts...
