Up till now, I've been using a metal plate spraypainted with matte black as a backstop for divergence test, etc. It stands up fine for sub-500mw lasers but I've recently acquired a 4 watt 808nm C-mount. The black coating vaporizes within seconds leaving exposed shiny metal which floods the room with IR. Any recommendations for a simple/cheap backstop?

thanks

What you could use is a Satin Black Anodized piece of aluminum. It will be
take a bit more heat than flat black paint... ;)
Although I've not yet tested as high as a 4watt Laser Diode... ::)

Have you tried black anodized heatsinks ?

They seem to work well. Then again, I dont have a 4W laser diode either :P
