Hey I just made my laser and its working great. But I noticed after about 1 min The host gets warm and the light turns off for about 1/2 sec and then back on. What is this caused by? I am pretty sure heat is an issue but I am wondering WHY. I am using a copper heatsink and module. I have heard of these being ran WAY longer. Why am I running into this issue? I have a microboost at 1A. Thanks :)

If you could post a pic with it disassembled, showing your driver connections etc., as well as the battery you are using?

I would really not like to take the head apart because it was a pain in the ass to get in because I got some solder on the thread by accident so it doesn't like to fit well. I just threw in a new battery. I am thinking the heat caused inefficiency and the battery couldn't keep up.

Could be the battery if its protected... cell voltage drops, circuit disconnects, it rises again, turns back on etc. I haven't seen this myself, but its feasible.

Thats what I was thinking, yes its protected. I think that was the issue. I am afraid to run it hot though because I am wondering if the driver will melt the electrical tape round it. :/ Whats safe to run an all coper build? Thanks :)

Post a picture of the host.

Two things cause cut out.

1 Overheating driver.
2 Battery failing.

If your host is getting warm, then it might be the batteries are over heating too. To much draw will make them hot. In any case sounds like your duty cycles should be under 1 minute.

Edit: Is this Jay's SS host? If it is, then its not big enough for long duty cycles. I would not push it over 30 seconds. The host doesnt have enough mass to maintain 1W for very long.
