Hi all
This is my first posting but hear goes in my local news paper today in the north west uk it was reported that a man was arrested for using a laser pen. An attack on a police helicopter from a home in Nelson Lancashire it was in pursuit of a car when it happened and had to take evasive action. :'( if this post is a bit disjointed i have just got up after a nightshift and 3 hours sleep.

The problem I can see heading our way is that if you are out star pointing/making paterns on a misty night, or as I do sometimes running the laser along the trees that back onto my garden, and the police copter is just "in the vicinity", it will be too easy for them to say it was pointed at them even if it was nowhere near.......
Who will be believed? the fine upstanding policeman or guy who owns the laser....

Thanks for posting the link as i am not allowed to yet. Lets hope thing like this don't stop our fun i am playing at modulating lasers at the moment.

I don't like that those IDIOTS spoil everything for serious laser enthusiasts! >:( Just look at what happened in Australia! Laser enthusiasts there must be awfully angry right now! No, make it forbidden for idiots to buy lasers instead! :D

Yes, we are awfully angry >:( Bastards...

Not sure about the forbidden for idiots to buy lasers though... I mean I'm not a laser idiot, but I am a normal idiot :D

That was just a joke, Murudai! How would the laser stores be able to tell who are idiots and who are not? Mind reading? ::)
By the way, are you from Australia or what? You said that WE were awfully angry... Australia is a nice country, but I would not like to move there because then I wouldn't be able to be an active laser enthusiast! ;D

I think he was talking about us as LPF members are angry, then he called the idiots bastards, I don't know, I could be wrong. ::) It is now typical for these incidents to occur, there's at least one a month somewhere in the world. Of coarse they usually present the ones who get caught to inflect fear (and I'm sure they over exaggerate the damage just a hair) but it is an absolute idiotic thing to do. I don't think they will ban lasers, because they really haven't caused as much damage to the victim as to the suspect...yet. All we need is for a 747 to go down and kill hundreds of people because the pilot and copilot get completely blinded, or for a police helicopter to crash into a house and kill a whole family and two officers of the law. Most are simple misjudgments made from uneducated juveniles. It hurts us to see this because we are on the other side of the spectrum with lots of respect for lasers in all sorts of aspects these dummies are completely ignorant to and they make us look bad because a few bad apples spoiled a whole lot. I’ll shut up now. :P

LOL of course I knew it was a joke, that's why I replied with a joke ;) Someone needs some more experience with forums methinks ;)

And yes, I am Australian. And as far as I've been able to tell, those laser laws don't work so well concerning imports :) Haven't had any problems yet.
