Anyone excited about this movie? I wasn't really that excited until I read about the history of it development and the new technologies and 3d camera's Cameron got made just so he could create a more realistic "life-like" picture.

Here is the article
James Cameron’s New 3-D Epic Could Change Film Forever | Magazine

So does this mean if I don't go see it on an IMAX or 3D screen, I'm not going to be getting the full effect? Guess I need to start looking for some good 3d theaters around my area.

Yes, Avatar will blow us away with a lot of new and mixed technology. This is an awesome undertaking, and his vision, commitment to, and direction toward that end produces a movie that will set new standards for effects.

The thing about the release mediums is that if you see it first in 2D (Imax or no), you will be at least as happy as when you 1st saw Star Wars. Then you'll probably want to go see it again in 3D. The theatres and production avenues then get twice your money for tickets! So, it's also a great marketing idea.

Cameron has been working on this for a very long time, and had to wait for some technology to become available to ILM and other subs to pull it together.

I've just waited for many recent releases to get to PPV (usually takes 6 months or so), but I think I want to go to the theatre and pay for buttered popcorn to see this one as it's meant to be seen. It really is special.
