is this going to be the new teardown ?

I hope not... I suspect that thing will run for far more than our casios do. I f it wasn't as expensive as I think it will be and has a better laser than the casios do then it might be a new addition to our diode lineup but I don't see it replacing anything mainly because of the likely cost.

I don't think LG is going to be the only company with access to the 1W green diodes, while it looks like they're the first, I think cheaper alternatives will be out in due time.

I wonder if that projector will use direct green diodes or not. It might still use DPSS since the diodes are so new. We will know once someone who is rich gets one and decides to tear it apart lol.

Wow if it can make a 100" screen from 22", I think the divergence of those diodes would be terrible! ;)

The 1W green diodes will have beam specs similar to the 1W 445nm diodes :p

It is not unlikely they'll use green diodes, LG is a huge company, they've got money to blow on a huge production run of green diodes. They'd get them for cents.

I guess that's true isn't it. Well, we shall see if we finally have what we all have been dreaming about :D

I would agree that the 532nm direct greens would likely have specs similar to our beloved M140s since they would also be multimode and designed for high output.

I really hope this is it.. been delaying a high power green because of the new diodes! I'd rather have a multimode green version of the M140 than another unstable DPSS that only looks bright when it chooses to and hops like a damn bunny.

I suggest you start saving up for the diode now then. They will likely cost quite a lot.

Not so sure about that, at least it should be half the price of a 1W DPSS... I mean, they will be pulled out of projectors and those will likely have many diodes.

But I'll start saving just in case :)

Half the price of a 1W DPSS.... so that leaves the price at what $500-$800 or something around that? I would hardly place that at a good price. Also, I don't know that the projectors will have that many of the diodes since they will very likely be insanely bright so not as many will be required as there are usually in our beloved Ca$io M140s. I am just guessing at the price and expecting the worst case so when they do come around it could be a pleasant surprise.

I'm expecting the initial price to be about $500, yes. It will probably go down after the novelty factor wears out. Not that it's cheap but it's a lot cheaper than anything that gets even close to that bright.... and I like bright beams!

If we take 532nm to be about 4 times brighter than 445nm than we can expect some 6 diodes per projector plus blue and red ones which will lower the cost per diode.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic :P
