is my Wicked laser a previously returned unit?

I have heard that one of Wicked's modi operandi is to send RMA'd lasers to customers until one accepts it. I now suspect that this may be the case with my laser. :(

When I got my "Advanced" laser (I won it from a Spectra Forum contest), it already had some problems. There are scratches on the laser body, the battery cap, and the IR filter. The scratches on the body mean that the laser may have been previously used in a rough manner. The scratches on the IR filter indicate that a previous user may have tried to clean it, although within an incorrect method.

Also, although my laser outputs more than the specified 35 mW when I use fresh batteries, it drops below 35 mW long before the batteries run out. I now suspect that my laser is an RMA'd one. :(

Why would they send and underperforming laser to a forum contest winner intentionally? They would know that that user would immediately post about it on the forum. They normally send out overspec lasers as prizes so that that is what everyone will expect to get. I do hear that wickedlasers reuses parts though (external parts and lenses).

This isn't the first time they have done this. As I recall they sent out a bunch of defective cores to the winners of a contest on their own forum and then banned one of the members when he complained about it.

Previously returned units should be sold at 1/2 price, if wl was an honest company.
Then the price of the broken lasers would match the price of new lasers from other companies! ;D

Ive got an idea why; they had so many returned lasers that they didn't know what to do with them. so the said, "hey, i got an idea, lets make a contest to get some good viral marketing out there and send these winners some of these junkers we have. After all, there ""free"" for them."

What i say is just return it to them if your warranty is still good until you get a good laser out of them.

Yeah, well they are about to come out with a 400-500mW spyder III and if it even puts out close to 400mWs it would be worth getting to me. Depending on the price which they haven't decided on yet. But anyways, I just love the way their lasers look. So if this Spyder III performs well it would be worth getting because it looks like a frikin stealth lightsaber handle or something. ;D

You will probably have good luck if you buy one from the first batch. They will want to make a good first impression and are more likely to send out good spyder IIIs to the first buyers.

I guess thats how they feel its fair to "'clean up" their returned merchandise shelf.
My wife bought me Pulsar two years ago and it was one of the frst pulsars. Silver paint was so scratched and worn off on edges that I thought it went through 3 month of being carried in someones pocket together with keys :-))

Laser performed very well, and it was a present so Idecided not to bitch and focus on good sides. I sanded it off completely and made it look nice. I even gave it a good review, but I mentioned scratches.
Now it all makes sense.

If the Spyder III is outputting "400mW", there's a better chance it outputs 200mW, proportionaly, the Spyder II have been mesured to output < than 150mW !
Oh BTW should I RMA my pulsar ? It has a 0.9mRad of positive divergence, and now that this thread is up, I'm having doubts on my pulsar : it can't burn matches with a beam diameter of 1mm but only trash bags ! Would it be worth to pay the RMA ? My pulsar won't burn unless it is superfocused. Also at least the button works (the previous one didn't) :( :( :( :( I'm so upset. Oh Also I entered their youtube contest cause I'm still not banned : please take a look at my videos, I'll tell you how it turns out...

Your pulsar sounds normal to me. My pulsar won't even melt black plastic bags or pop balloons unless I use the capset. I did manage to melt a tiny indentation into some black foam by using a nylon tie to turn the pulsar on and leaving it there for 4+ minutes. Btw this is while using Energizer e2 Titanium batteries. It is even worse with cheap batteries. At least with the capset it isn't bad. It lights matches almost instantly when focused down to a point. It also makes a decent long range pointer and has a visible beam at night.

When i sent back my mode-hopping x-65 to nova i think they sent me a repaired unit, there was a lens on the very top of the module that was just glued on there, i don't mind though, it is much more powerful and has perfect tem00

..lazer... ;D ;D ;D

The first pulsar125 I got from WL was WAY underpowered and had a strange corona around the dot, so I RMA:ed it. I just recently I got a the replacement, but it is also underpowered. But that's not the worst thing about it: the shell is scratched and the button isn't clicking; it seems to be improperly used before I got it. :-? I am seriously considering that I will DEMAND a good pulsar from wicked IF I will RMA it. Those shipping costs and customs fees are killing me! >:(
It was a bad day when I first saw WL:s site and decided to buy the pulsar. I could have gotten FIVE dilda-lazors from dealextreme for the price of one pulsar, and they will most likely have more power!
All laser enthusiasts would be alot happier if WL wouldn't exist!

Man am I ever glad I found this website before I got the cash together for a WL [smiley=lolk.gif]
