Irregularly shaped laser dot

I recently bought a laser 301 with a 3000mAh Ultrafire battery coming with it. I notice some problems.
First of all: the dot this laser produces seems to be irregular instead of round. This is especially the case when out of focus. Does this mean the cristal is broken? Or maybe it is the lens? Can I do something about it?
Second: The power drops very quickly (within a fraction of a second) to a dissatisfacting green "dot" that can not even produce smoke on a black surface. At night the beam is faintly visible, unlike video's on youtube concearning the same type of laser. The battery came straight from the charger. Again: can I do somethin about it? Or did I just had bad luck buying this laser?

Should I buy a new one or are the odds to big to get another semi-working laser? Or: should I just buy another type of (more reliable) laser?

Thanks!

Looks like a TEM01 beam pattern through a cheap lens. You crystal are very probably misaligned due to poor packaging during shipping. Sorry bro, it isn't worth fixing :( just get yourself another one, or a better quality one (hint: Laserbtb).

i had the same problem with a few cheap green lasers, it might just fix itself eventually like mine did. i would agree with doubleone, go for a laser from laserbtb, more expensive, but worth it. i wouldn't get the DPSS green though because its just finicky and expensive, go for a diode laser like red, blue, purple, or even the diode green if you want that color.

LaserBTB.com

sucks that your laser broke though, i know that feeling.

Look at the optics on that laser, and you'll see they are garbage. The optics literally make or brake inexpensive lasers like these.

Sorry to see that the laser is not good right out of the box :(
Have you contacted who you bought it from for a replacement?

I am amazed by your quick responses. Thanks for that! I expected the lens to be poor quality, but to hear the cristal is likely misaligned is a real pity. I visited the website of Laserbtb, but I think I'll take my chances on buying another cheap one, I know, it is a risk. Maybe later, I could go for the more expensive ones.

cheaper are crap and u never know what u get before u have it in your hands.. why waste money on garbage ? one time is enough

And its a fake cell too.

There's no such thing as a real Ultrafire, and, 3000 mAh is not a real number, indicating its a fake cell. There were 2900 and 3100 for example, but no 3000.

The loss in power could be because inside the cell's new wrapper is an old laptop battery....and, its toast.

Throw it out/don't use it...it might blow up or catch fire, etc...or just be dead and useless.

You say "I'll just keep paying for things that look like what I wanted, but are fakes...because the fake ones are cheaper"

:D

You could go buy a pencil, and pretend you bought a fake laser. It would be even cheaper and work about the same.

:D

LG, Samsung, and Sanyo all make 18650's that are 3000mAh.
