How do you propose he test for the goggles' transparency to IR in the first place? You're not going to find any safety goggles that pass 100% of IR A direct laser hit on safety glasses tends to melt them.

But this is a good test, which if he has all the material, can give him a rough estimate to how much IR is leaking.
