i have many IR diodes from many dvd drives, and i want to make a pen lasers with thim what ma do u guys run thim at ?

Depends what drive they are from, I got one from a CDR/W and ran it at 200mA and it's still alive, but it never burned anything, due to horrible cheap cheap optics.

i have a bunch of dvd burner ir diodes i would like to put to use and 803 ir diodes

I may be wrong but it seems the IR diode in the 803T sled would be weaker than those from a dvd burner, since the XBOX HD-DVD drives are read-only. There is speculation that the 803T sled may have been intended to be a burner, though. I guess the only way is to try......

well im just going to full around with them, and buy a nice ir diode with a driver so i can make one to put in a pen laser :)

I run my DVD-IR diode at 150mA for as much as a day at a time in a x5 25mm washer heatsink no problem. It gets a little warm, but not hot.

I have a couple of the IR/Red phr-803t diodes. I threw together a flashlight build with the red hooked up to a 38mA rkcstr driver and its pretty bright, no burning, range is decent on it.
:-?
My next step is to hook up the IR side. Now for the unusual twist, I want to run the IR and Red at the same time. Has anyone tried this or thought about this? I would love to hear from someone that has before I hook it up and fry mine. If they can't or shouldn't be run at the same time I had the idea to pulse them one after the other to make it seem to be at the same time.

Let me get some feedback, and tell me your tests, mA, voltage and such. ;)
