i was wondering if u kill a IR diode will it still give a dim glow like other colored diodes? (using a camera to see the light) i dont know if i blew my green lasers IR diode or if its just not hooked up right. the pinout on 5.6mm IR diodes just like a normal red pinout right?

808nm diodes are case positive, and yes, they can still glow but not laze when damaged.

i used the IR diode from an old CD-RW with an optic module from a laser printer, at 150mA it burn plastic tape, but don't burn a match, very little power (and at 250mA died :( whyy??)

and the diode wasn't 100% IR, is red too, i saw it!!! (why???)

i used something like this

You most likely over-drove the diode; CD burners aren't meant for such high powers. IR diodes do emit a faint red light, this is probably because it's right on the limit of what the human eye can see. Don't be fooled though, it's probably quite powerful so use googles that are rated IR...

what is the max current for an IR diode from a CDRW or a DVDRW
