i got a 56x dvd burner. its old and used. can i build a burning laser out of its laser diode?
if yes: how should i build it and what kinf of driver should i use?

thank you :)

There is no such thing as a 56x DVD burner, or even a reader for that matter. Maybe you're talking about the CD read speed?

It'd probably help if you post the specific model of the drive you're talking about.

Just the smallest effort on your part to do a little
research using your own info on that label would
have quickly told you that your Drive was NOT a
DVD Burner...

It is a CD ROM Drive.... It is only a CD Reader.
It can not even read DVDs....

It seems that you are either too lazy to do a simple
Google search or you are Trolling...

Poor drive was never a burner in any sense of the word...

Unless you can fish one out of an old computer, and it's an actual DVD burner, most drives don't cost any less than the diodes, and you risk destroying the diode in extraction. Just stick with the bare diodes and make sure you have that working. It'd be even more waste of effort if you went through the trouble of extracting the diode only to have it burn out too.
