unless the epoxy is on the end it wont matter
chances are the diode pin snapped

that looks allot like a 10mW ebay pointer (star something on the pen clip, lol), the black (or silver paint) flakes so easily. You might love the laser man, as you would being a gift, but once you buy a decent 100mW plus one, you be so much happier
