I got my x125, 2.8mRad?!

I got it today with the goggles :). I must say that it is a really elegant laser. It's bright, looks good and feels nice.
Peak output power: 143.9mw
Average output power: 140.7mw, Novas measurement.

But the dot is about 25mm in diameter at 15 meters  :-/. I calculated that it is 2.8mRad (did I make that right?) by using pseudonomen137's mRad calculator (good one there  ;)). Nova's specs say <1.2mRad. I'm a bit concerned about it. What do you guys and gals think?
 





Oops! I meant 2,58 mRad, but still...  :-/
Never mind I'll check it agin...
 
Ok, I made some new measurements I belive it's 1.44 mRad. :-? 11mm in diameter at 6.8 meters.
Anyway the beam is fat at 15 meters.
I'm sorry for the miss calculations, I need to calm down. I'm still conserend. This is the most expensive thing I've ever bought. Please tell what you think.
 
Did you have your goggles on while taking the measurements? This isn't because of safety, but because it helps you take an accurate measurement. My old X105 had a divergence of somewhere around 1.3mRad IIRC, I wasn't too happy about that after having a leadlight with amazing divergence, but if it is out of spec RMA it.
 
I used the goggles. About the RMA, will it be me who need to pay for the shipping? I had some bad luck when I got it, it got caught in the customs check (I wasn't prepared for that) and had to pay the equivalent to $100 >:(
 
You will be the one who has to pay for shipping to them, if you RMA it. It's kinda risky, but I think you can re focus it. Someone had and out of focus Vega-10 on here, he focused it somehow, if you find out who it was who had that vega ask him for instructions on how to focus it, the instructions for the vega are probably similar to focusing your X125.
 
I don't want spoil the warranty :-/.

The weard thing is that I specificly asked them to check for defects. Such as bad beam spec so that I didn't need to be in this mess :'(...

Usually these problems are caused by the laser getting knocked around during shipping and the collimating lens moving a tiny amount.
 
That's why I orderd it with the carrying case, thought that would help :-/.
 
You have 3 options.
1-Keep it the way it is.
2-Send it back to be repaired professionally and pay for the shipping.
3-Attempt to fix it yourself and risk ruining it.
 
Well I was aware of the options. I guess that I was looking out for a fourth one... Oh well  ::).

If i keep it the way it is I will be depressed every time I use it. On the other hand I litterly don't want to screw things up in order to fix it. Possibly end up crashing and burning.
All I can do is to RMA it (cr@p! cr@p! cr@p! cr@p!  :'( >:().

Thanks for the help, we'll see what happens. If anyone have some RMA experience, or similar, please post  [smiley=thumbsup.gif].

I think your calculation is wrong.
As the beam diameter is 1mm at the aperture and 25mm at 15meters the calculation would be;

(25-1)/(15-0)= 1,6mRad.
Not so bad for a CNI.
Just try to pop a balloon. If you can pop a balloon (black one please) from 3meters do not send it back.
Just keep it and play all day ;)
 
I don't got any balloos yet, lol. I tryed it with a match at 25 centimeters. It takes about 20 seconds.
I send a message to Nova, I asked if I could fix it myself, maybe I can get some instructions. Probably not. I really don't want to send it back.
We'll see what they say  :). I keep it in the carrying case for now.  Fingers crossed everyone!
 
wow my x125 nova is in the mail, i hope mine doesn't mess up like that : :-/
 
I got some good news! I have been talking with the Nova staff in the past few days about the problem. It turned out that the mRad is only off by 0.08mm :D. I got the measurements wrong because that I didn't measure the dot on a flat black suface. They sended me instructions on how to do it right. The beam is still quite fat at 15 meters, but I'm fine with that because now I know that it is working properly. They asked me if I wanted to send it back too be adjusted so the mRad would be <1.2mm. But i'd said no it's fine and I'm enjoying it now. It is a wonderful laser! I also asked them about which batteries that they recommend and they said the Duracell Ultra would do the jobb. The Nova staff was very helpful and told me that I should contact them if there is any other problem and they will be happy to help. Go for NOVAlasers :).
