I found a portable c-mount host

We are all going to sit and rot for a year before the Kryton Beast comes out. I really want that host, and I mean REALLY want that host, but realistically, we will have a long wait. In the meantime, I have been searching for an alternative. O-like sells them for $60. They fit c-mount diodes. Here's the host:

Anyway, I don't have all too much talent when it comes to these things. I by no means consider myself an electronics expert, far from it! I suck at soldering and seeing how to put things together. If someone would like to order one of these blank hosts and explain how to install a c-mount diode into it, that would be awesome.

EDIT: The link is to an actual laser, not a blank host; you can't purchase the blank host off the O-like website, you have to contact Susie about it privately. The laser shown is in the host that I am referring to.

Hey that’s good thinking I believe you may be on to something . If the blank host could be purchased for 60.00 that would be a truly awesome deal . It sounds like it has the makings for a group buy.

The problem with this is the optics designed to focus the output are designed to be after the module so the distances for focus will be way off. I'm sure it can be modified but will take A LOT OF WORK. Plz don't get me wrong, I defenitly want to see ya'll getting a easy to use c-mount host.
 
interesting... are you trying to get something like that 1W c-mount diode from o-like into this host? Is that the kind of thing you mean?

Hi I not sure if the question was for me but yes virtually any c-mount diode with the proper driver and duty cycle should work fine .

I want to get a heruursciences diode into there. The problem would be collimation; how would I go about making the optics? If I bought a heruursciences diode with collimation and TEC already installed, could I add this into the host?

Its really difficult to say without seeing the host internally and without having some measurements of the heruursciences assembly . Maybe Susie can sell a few of the empty host and we can find out :-)

Honnesty, i don't think that a tec will be a good compromise between cooling and efficiency. The tec need to be well heatsinked to cold the diode. Plus it will eat large amount of current, which will increase the teperature of the Cell and the host.

Im sure that a Cmount in a good heatsink (with contact to the host), can do a better job. That's my first experiment showed to me. Tec is only suitable if there is massive heatsinking behind.

Plus the optic are designed to collimate the light (532 nm) which are produced by the crystal, not the 808 nm of the diode which remain nearly "uncollimated".

You will need otherS optics to focuse a cmount, see the post of Heruur in group buy (page 5).
The host is the latest problem for cmount. It's a detail. Major problem are heatsinking and collimation. I don't have an answer how to collimate to infinite a cmount beam, i will do some experiment in 1 month to reach that.
