Well I got that new DILAS laser as some of you know and it’s 808nm 30 watt output, and I have a pair of eagle pair glasses, well I always thought the label was 190-540nm and 800-1700nm come to find out its 900nm to 1700 NOT 800. So I’ve been using them this whole damn time looking at this 30 watt laser (luckily on a black surface) and I was wondering why I could still see some of the output. I’m honestly scared my eyes have like holes in them now or something. Anyone recommend decent 808nm goggles

Survival Laser has -These- that protect from 800nm to 1700nm at an OD5 level.
I hope you haven't damaged your eyes by using the wrong safety goggles!

You needn't worry about the light from a matte surface as it is never collimated and cannot cause you permanent damage to your eyes. If you had burned your retinas, you wouldn't be wondering about it. You would already know.

I have used the 800-1700 with the extra blocking side curtains and bridge of nose plastic inserts but looking at the chart I also want something better for NIR, the purple tint looks good for (((( strictly 808nm ))))

Here's an economy pair, use at your own risk:

Charts for 800-1700 and 900-1700 EP can be found here:

Here's what you should buy if you want peace of mind:

Wow! At $178.00 per pair, they should give the ultimate peace of mind. But, Thor Labs has always been a bit on the pricey side.

Alrighty I’ll have to get me a pair soon. That’s a lot of money haha. And btw that dilas laser is super weird, I have it running at 3.4 volts 20 amps and it’s doing fine, but that such a weird voltage I’m sure it can go more because it’s 35 percent efficient which means at 90 watts it gets about 30 watts output

Have you measured the voltage right at the laser's input terminals? At this amount of current, you could be dropping a volt easily in the leads going from your PS to the laser. You have to take that into consideration when you are calculating the possible output power.

I will have to get a new multimeter and check it, that could definitely be true a volt or more honestly it says the diode should be at 1.9 or below the wires are just average alligator clips that begin to smoke if left on for too long yikes maybe I need to put thicker wires on too, less resistance

Use heavy gauge stranded copper wire. And if you just have to use alligator clips, solder your wire to them. Don't just press them on like most alligator clips do.

Alright I’ll do that :) maybe it will fix that weird voltage, or maybe since it’s an OEM module the voltage could possibly be in the 5 volt range!

I have the same Eagle pair and always wondered why the IR side started at 900nm.
I saw Reds link but what equipment at a docs or dentist would only need to start at that 900nm?

You want to find a balance between visible light transmission so you can see what you're doing and attenuation of the wavelengths you will be working with, for doctors/dentists if they use a YAG then their heads are 532nm and 1064nm in most cases so they would likely be issued the 35% VLT amber glasses that have a high OD for 532 and 1064 so they don't have to match glasses to heads/wand ends which could lead to a mistake, the customers/patients will likely wear 100% blocking eye protection.
