how powerful is the (i think red color) laser thats used for reading dvds in the case of a pc

I'm not sure exactly what you want to know. The laser in the CD or DVD reader is set to very low power as it is not necessary to push the power very high. However the red laser diode can be pushed to 200 mW to 300 mW if removed. The Mitsubishi ML101U29 is one of those diodes.

The ones in computers are readers and writers, they are the ones that have high power diodes
