How hot should a 445nm diode laser get? how to determine duty cycle

i have a coleman CR2 host and i want to figure out a good duty cycle so i dont kill the diode...how hot should the host get before i shut it off...it has a cute little heatsink lol...im driving it at 1.3A
 





I'm curious to see what answers you get from the more experienced folks here.

I will say this though, and understand that it shouldn't be taken as the final word by any stretch, just my opinion.

I typically don't like the concept of quoting duty cycles. It really comes down to how much of a risk you are willing to take. When the host (near the heat sink) starts getting warm, it's time to turn it off and let it cool awhile. The larger the mass of the heat sink / host the longer you can go before the host starts getting warm.
 
what i want to know is what defines "warm".

warm like 30C or warm like 60C....what is "warm"?

...a hot day in New England is much different than a hot day in Texas....my laser gets "warm" within 40 seconds. warm meaning ~35C in my case.
 
When it becomes warm you generally have 30 or so more seconds of the duty cycle left.
