i was wandeing how bad the IR was from a 10mw laser without a filter.
and where is it located, can holding the laser and looking at the green beam be bad for you.

and, why is IR from a laser so bad, radiation i guess. can someone please explain this.

thankyou.

EDIT: where can i get an IR filter for a laser such as DX 10mw CR2?

You don't need an IR filter for the IR from a 10mW green, the IR would probably be 1-10mW , and would also have a high divergence. It is perfectly safe to look toward the beam, no need to worry about IR. You really don't need to worry about IR unless its from a green thats REALLY powerful such as a 100mW pointer.

This basically says everything that needs to be said.

ok, becuase my eyes kinda stung after using it for a while, and it was outdoors. without puting the dot on anyhitng close to be.

thanks for that info ;)

even on the high power greenies, the green is going to do far more damage than the IR will, so dont worry about the IR unless you're trying to get a super accurate power reading or something like that.

I have a 5mW green from ebay seller salostore (Note: This is not a commercial post, I'm just trying to provide as accurate information as possible.) and I was wondering about the actual power, IR leakage, and such. I stare at the dot from only a couple of feet away quite a lot, and I was wondering about how bad this is for my eyes without goggles. Also, I have glasses, which seem to make the dot somewhat brighter. How bad is this?
