Hi all,
I'm trying to find a way to build a good quality 532nm around 500mw myself after having my RPL from Optotronics seized by Australian Customs. I've been looking at the forums for a while and the consensus about top quality 532nm modules seems to be CNI (any other suggestions appreciated).

I've noticed CNI modules seem to be 20mm rather than the usual 12mm ones I have built my first couple of lasers with (if I have got it right from their website). Any suggestions on a suitable host for a 20mm module?

Also, I have noticed their drivers seem to only come in 3v and 5v. I figure 3 volt is 2 x normal 1.5v batteries. What would work with a 5v driver?

Appreciate the help.

Cheers
Mick

Talk to Ehgemus, jayrob, Mrcrouse, or Eudaimonium about custom hosts. The voltage required on that 5 volt module can be 2X Li-Ion batteries such as 18350s or even the bigger 18650s. The driver input voltage does not have to be exactly 3 volts or 5 volts respectively. Sorry to hear about your loss.

You can use many common hosts, just have one of the machinists make a custom heatsink to fit a 20mm module.

As for the batteries, 1 li-ion cell will work, very likely much better than standard alkaline.

Edit: heh, I was beaten to it...

Appreciate the information, I will look into the custom hosts when I get some money to actually afford a CNI module (I hear they are pretty expensive).

Also good to here about the driver voltage. So I take it they would be similar to drivers I have from DTR with a range from 3v - 5v (single Li-Ion) or 5v - 8v (2 x Li-Ion).

Thanks
Mick

I didn't think about just getting a different heatsink made for a regular host. Thanks for that. I suppose 20mm is only 4mm shaved off the inside of the heatsink and should work.

Thanks
Mick
