Ok!

I made a diffraction grating and well figured it fits most here since its Home Made :P

heres a video of how it looks in use
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY73d68J_Ps

and if it arises ill make a better "DIY" video than the one I got of it currently :P Don't know if its been made (probably has) but here is mine atleast figured it out all on my own hehe.

enjoy!

How did you cut the grating ?? Glass or plastic? I didn't watch the whole video. That's quite a trick to make a grating.

It's plastic used from the clear plastic thingy from DRiver-CD envelope thingys :P I recon it can easily be done with glass aswell =)

For those that don't want to watch the entire video, he has placed bits of clear plastic between two sheets so that you can shine a laser through them and produce some random patterns.

I don't know if this is classified as a diffraction grating. A grating takes advantage of interference to create a regular pattern and is generally thousands of very precise lines or dots per inch scribed into a glass or plastic filter.

You can use a diffraction grating to separate light like a prism, measure lights wavelength etc.

This is more of just a textured filter, the assorted bits of plastic between the two sheets bend the light a bit.

hmmm ye your right :P read up on Diffraction gratings and it doesen't qualify for that :P

but you gave me an idea on how i can make a similar thing only without the randomness :)

Go on craigslist and find old rear projection tvs people are trying to get rid of. They have large fresnel lenses in them(diffraction grating)
