I'm a computer enthusiast, but building lasers have intrigued me lately. I built my first 1W laser using lazerphase's how-to youtube video. I've also seen laser mods using computer power supplies, so that might be my next build. I'll have to make sure I learn as much as I can so I don't make any mistakes.
