HeNe lamp too powerful?

Hey forum

I'm building a HeNe laser lamp similar to Jayrob's but with some tweaks.
I noticed that he used a ~3mW, my question is whether it is safe to use the 14mW I just got. The tube was originally 14mW however it was sold used, so I suspect it is lower.

Will the light coming from the exposed portion be "safe" to use as a lamp? (not the beam of course). If not, will using a weaker power supply or enclosing it with frosted acrylic help?

HeNe's are new territory for me so if anyone has suggestions that would be grand. Thanks

The incoherent light from the plasma discharge isn't going to hurt anything, my 35mW HeNes here are awesome to look at without the cover :)
