Help with remote control amplifier

Hi,
I have a small project that Im working at. I want to amplify an IR remote control (dvd, TV, Air conditioner...)
I found this one on dealextreme:

I was wondering if I can just replace this item with the original IR-LED, or that I have to modifiy something.

When I click your link it says bad request. And no matter what diode you swap into it, the remote will still be outputting the same amount of power

so... how do i use it with my remote if the new diode needs more power ?
