Help with a DIY blu-ray laser. I used a diode from an Xbox360 HD DVD drive. I built the driver following a schematic found at the instructables wedsite ( the tut is from KipKay, it's called New 007 weapon revealed!) I don't know how im supposed to set the power nor how much the diode will take because they some time vary. Could you please tell me what voltage to use and what current to use for 25 mW and what for 150 mW (or less, all I want to do with the hight power is light a match! :) ) Note : this is my first DIY laser. I can also provide images.

When the tears dry up try reading the tutorial section on how to properly set up a driver.
 
Ok thanks with that, it was helpful, but what current should I use for 40 mW of power? Will this power setup give me good visibility of the beam? And will it give a long diode lifespan? And what for the heat generated? As you can see, I still got lots of questions :) . If im not interested in burning stuff, than what is the best current, voltage and power for the diode?
Can you also tell me how to calculate the mA from the dummy load? Im getting a max of 9 mV wich if I convert gives 9 mA. Is this normal?
 
Here is what you need to know.....

1. Buy a aixiz module, press fit the diode in there,
2. Buy a driver either a lavadrive or a rkstr driver, lavadrive is for 2.0-5.5v w/o a diode in series, rkstr is for 7.25-12.0, so it depends on your power source,
3. You can make your own test load with a 1ohm resistor and 6 1N4001 diodes in series and read across the resistor, their is a diagram here in the forums, search and you will find it.
4. Set it to around 110-120mV That's at least 100+mW, enough to burn and has a visible beam, heat will be generated, so yea get a heat sink.


Just search around, you will find your answers, that's what i have done for over 3 months.
 
You didn't answer my question. I already got a driver! And i'm using 6 volts, but none of your driver do 6 volts!
