OK long story short I have had this 100mw laser about three years

I basically took it apart today as i think i had either killed the diode or the board with the switch on it.

i have included a picture to give people some idea of the components of the laser.

what i want to know is if you count the items in the picture top to bottom1-6

I need to try to identify and replace parts 3 and six (laser diode and board)

can some one please tell me if i should be able to do this easily.
plus the parts ill need? can i just replace the broken diode and board seeing as i have the lenses?.

really grateful for any pointers . perhaps I could even upgrade the diode? I have a couple of old lasers laying around but i would like to repair the thing and at the very least have 100mw out of its dead shell again. I reckon I could solder the parts together if i had them. I have certainly killed the diode. stupidly i tried to increase the power by adding an extra battery. this sorry attempt left me with a laser that would come on for a fraction of a second and then just burn with a dull green glo with a red tinge. perhaps i havnt killed the board just the diode?

btw it was green.

any help and pointers as to where i can obtain the parts i need and the cost involved are very welcomed.

cheers

p.s i figure the optics i can still use as the lense is ir coated and both the lense and housing i havnt damaged at all. also the diode has a very fine thread on it..

Can you provide a better picture of that diode? Diodes aren't threaded, so I think you took out the complete diode/crystal array. The diode should come out of part 3. The driver board should probably be bought new unless you can find the broken component and do some neat smd soldering.

The best would be to replace the complete module, something like this:
Green laser module 50mW For custom build or lab [OLGLM50] - $26.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce
Altough I recommend looking at the different shops and the reviews.
really grateful for any pointers .
I see what you did there.

Upgrading the diode is possible, you probably have an open can 5.6mm diode in there. Look for a high power 808nm laser diode, something like 300~500mW. You'd need a new driver for that. There's a good chance that laser never was 100mW, so don't aim too high.
A too high supply voltage at least kills the driver board, you could do a test witha laser diode driver to see if the diode still lives.
Be very carefull with that dull red glow! That's 808nm IR, hardly visible at insane power levels, don't be fooled! If you want to work with pump diodes get some proper IR blocking laser safety glasses to be safe.

The lens probably isn't coated at all, definately not IR coated as it is a green laser, not an IR laser.

Hmm thanks for the reply. I bought the pointer from a pretty good laser store in the uk. When I first got it I was able to burn balloons and score dal leather so I am pretty sure it pumped out the 100mw or certaintly close to it plus compared to my 50mw it positively outshines it both in distance they appeared to travel and beam brightness.

To the diode. Our rigt. It seems
As I it is glued or screwed into the threaded holder. The crystal for the laser was in the other part of it

All too confusing I'll get you another pic later today. Oh. I took a diode out of an old cdrw compared to the one in my pen. The one in te pen is massive. I'll need to show a compare

I agree with ^^^.

Try to replace the driver/ repair it.

If the diode is dead, replace it. There are plenty of 808nm diodes out there.
Personally, though, I think that pump diode is a 9mm can.

Another note; when replacing the pump, sometimes the optics need to be realigned to get any 532 emission at all. I have run into this myself and it can ba a PITA.

Good luck! :)
