Help me select a Sanwu Pocket Laser

I have every colour of the Sanwu Pocket lasers and like them all. I like that the red laser and violet laser are single mode. I like the blue and green lasers too for the colour. I was using a 50mw 520nm pocket laser for astronomy, but I replaced it with the 5mw Laserland pen style 510 laser (see other thread). I also like that the violet laser causes fluorescence and it is really good burner too (focuses into small spot). I am a bit afraid of the blue and violet lasers for safety reason (high power and blue and violet bother my eyes after awhile). I have safety glasses, but accidents can happen.

I see, I'm leaning more towards the cyan ones then. I envision using them on night time hikes and don't necessarily want something too powerful because I likely won't be using laser safety goggles. (Will be pointing up at the sky or other distant places)

Before you buy any laser over 5mw you need to have laser safety glasses that attenuate the wavelength you will be lasing with.

Yes I have a pair of Sanwu red and another pair of Sanwu green safety goggles. From what I've read, I didn't think they'd be too necessary for a lower output lasers (sub 300mw maybe) if I'm using it outdoors and away from reflective surfaces? (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Well any laser above 5mw can cause issues with your eye if you look directly into them. Green lasers tend to be safer in that they appear brighter and you are more aware of the intensity of the beam. Violet and red appear less bright at same power levels so you can think they are less dangerous (not so). Also blue and violet light can cause macular degeneration. I have seen the effects of bright blue and violet light when I close my eyes and it takes my eyes a little time to recover. Also, accident can happen quickly so better be safe then sorry.

If you can be 100% certain that you won't get a specular reflection or be in the path of the beam then you should be safe, however I would not view a diffuse reflection at point blank either or on the desktop without wearing the laser safety glasses.

You can also use the laser safety glasses to view your spot on the desktop that you otherwise couldn't see because of the bright splash, so the laser safety glasses are a useful tool as well to see what your collimating lens is really doing.

Also you said you were going to use the lasers at night hiking so I doubt you will use safety glasses in the dark hiking.

Yes, I use my od3 glasses for indoor use. I decided to go with the 150mw 520nm pocket laser. I hope it comes out well. Thank you guys for your help. I treat lasers with caution and a lot of fear so it should be alright.

I don't have personal experience with them, but I was considering them when I was looking

Hey everyone, I'm looking to purchase a Sanwu pocket laser.

I'm not very experienced with laser pointers. I only have a red ~200mw laser 304 and a cheap green ebay laser 303.

I don't know what colour option to pick and I'm not worried about dropping the extra $40 Canadian pesos for something a little more powerful.

I'm think I'm looking for the brightest one available but that 488 cyan looked really good in a review I saw.

Would the brightest be the 800mw 445?

I'm not too set on the burning capability either because I'm not sure if I want something too dangerous, mainly just a very bright one I could use on a night time hike.

Which one would you guys pick?

Thanks for reading!

Hey! I have 3 sanwu pockets, and I’m looking to sell them as well! I thought the 800mw would be the brightest, but actually my 505nm 50mw green one is brighter. Green lasers are just a lot more visible to the human eye. I also have the 650nm 250mw red, and it’s pretty bright for a red laser. These sanwu pockets are by far my favorite lasers, and it bums me out they aren’t being sold anymore. I recently purchased a sanwu guardian 1w 520nm, and now I have to sell two of my sanwu pockets because I spent to much on the guardian. I’m probably gonna keep the 800mw 445nm because it’s just such a powerful burning laser for its size, and it’s literally a black light, but if the price is right I’ll let it go!

Judd as nice as your offer might be, you only have 1 post..
Minimum is 20 posts I think with a good standing.. Believe me i'm saving you from a other chiming in.. ;)

Am I missing something here? In the last couple of days, I've heard in multiple threads that the Sanwu pocket laser isn't available anymore, but when I go to their site, I see the pocket series are still available.
They sell for $90 plus up to a $30 upcharge depending on wavelength & power. https://www.sanwulasers.com/product/pocket

I'm sure (as their site states) that delivery will be severely delayed because of the political situation there, but they seem to still be available.

Actually 445nm is blue---405nm is similar to "black light"

800nW of 445nm is brighter than 50mW of 520nm. 532nm is about 10X as visually bright as 445nm and 520nm is not as bright as 532nm

Saw your BST post when it was up---price was absurdly high for a used laser. Anyone wanting one would buy a new one at that price.
As mentioned your first and only post is a selling post--- you need 20 good laser posts to use the Buy, Sell and Trade subforum---try eBay for better luck. Not much chance at any price that someone would buy a used laser from an unknown with no track record on LPF.
Circumventing the rules by making sales post in other sub-forums can lead to being banned.

Looks like the pocket series is still available--anyone wanting one should email Sanwu first to find out delivery time.
Hopefully Sanwu will be back up to speed soon.
