Hi!

I got today my laser diode, axiz module and driver.

Diode is PHR-803T HD diode 405nm
Driver is Surface Mount FULL RANGE ADJUSTABLE Laser Driver bought from stonetek.

Im total newbie with DIY laser pointers.
So what voltage i should use and how to setup my driver correctly? I dont want to burn up my only diode.

Thanks already.

100mW for burning, and longevity. Never over 120mW.

Check the links in my sig for your other answers.

Good luck.

^ What TJ said! You'll get it in no time.

:)

P.s. Nice new Sig TJ! I would rep for that it still won't let me...

I dont need the points bro, no worries. Thank you for making a thread for the n00bs.

100mA is fine for PHR diodes.

You dont have to set the voltage, you have to set the current, the voltage is dropped across the diode.

you need a dummy load and a multi meter
read about loads/linear drivers here Laser driver - It can be done
I know you don't need the driver but it will give you a better idea of how everything works together

As auto xx said, you have to measure the voltage across the resistor, use 6 diodes, you can get them very cheap at any electronics store. A safe value for PHR's is 0.1V across the resistor, that means 100mA.

Hope you don't kill the diode!

BTW if they don't have 1N4001 you can use 1N400X where X a number, 1 to 7.
If they don't have any of these, well, that store sucks a lot!
