[HELP!] Laser reflected into its own lens, weak burning now

Can't it be de-canned and if so, will it have a reduced life?

I'd say go for it - the only other option is to replace it so nothing to lose but time.

Btw, there seem to be a lot of scratches on the top of the can, perhaps whatever caused those may have done some damage to the output window as well?

The laser was a gift from a friend for my birthday so I have no idea how to get it back to you. Do you live in United states?
