#Hi guys, skip to page #14, I've found out something interesting with the len's on the right (2element), it improves the beam specs on the Gball diodes incredibley!!!!

Hi guys,

Does anyone have any idea, or a good guess at what and where these two glass len's came from/ could be?,

I believe they came in a diode sled optics pack that i purchased, along with the other optics you can see in the background of the pictures.

Maybe the 2 on the left are 405-g-1's?, and the 2 on the right are 2 element glass?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

Hi guys,
Does anyone have an idea or a good guess what these two len types could be, i purchased them about 4-5years ago,

im guessing 2 on the left are 405-g-1, and 2 on the right are 2 element,

any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

You have to photograph these in profile it just to difficult to see how one of the lenses surfaces curve. Like the smaller image.

I'll hazard a guess though, one is a thick plano-convex. The other might be a
an aspherized achromat doublet lens. Note: there's no such thing as a G-2 per say. G2 is simply an arbitrary made up name given to a lens type sold by many lens suppliers worldwide.

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

These are found in certain projectors, directly above the laser diode, what exactly they do to the beam before entering into the optics of the PJ, I am not positive.

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

The ones that were on top of the 9mm NDB7875 diodes were named G9 by DTR who used to sell them with the diode. It was up to the purchaser to try to extract the lens intact and free from debris or scratches. I was able to get one of these apart and cleaned up, but that was some time ago.

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

Thanks for the info,
These could of come from a Xj-a140 sled, an optics "pack" I bought, similar to what Dtr sells, would explain the diameters,

Anyone know the diameter of a bare 405-g-1/2?

And the diameter of the bare aixiZ acrylic lens?

Thanks all :)

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

IIRC, those diameters are 6.3mm. Not sure about the acrylic lenses, though.

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

Thanks for the info Paul,
They are 6.33mm, Arylics must be the same, i remember swapping out the Arylic lens with the 405-g-1 lens when they first came out, and we used to drill out the back of the aixiz plastic lens holders to allow more photons to enter the optic :)

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

Glad to help. BTW, I am enjoying the new 532nm laser. Thanks.

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

As to what Ricker said, Hakzaw just might be able to help, as he regularly salvages projector's for his shows and had sent me a while back a few lenses that look very close to the first 1 piece lens.
If I can find them i'll measure them.

Ok i'm getting 5.99mm on the first single lens.

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

Cheers for measuring GSS

Yep, im 90% certain all these lenses are from an Optics bundle i purchased many years ago,

Which sled they came from i wouldnt know,
Ill eventually put them in a stripped Aixiz len holder to find out what they focus at

EDIT: could be from a PHR sled, or the BDR 8x sled

Re: Help identifying 2 optics

Those single element lenses need to be in a housing made specifically for one lens. They won't work in a multi-element lens housing.

These were the ones I was thinking of.

Not in a 3element, but they should fit in a standard acrylic, with the acrylic lens removed and using a spacer to make up the diameter, 5.5&6mm to 6.33mm :)

@Ricker, what block is that? Those measure the same as the 405-G-1/2 lenses,
Are those the G9's that Paul mentioned DTR sold with the NDB7875's

Re: #Interesting Find# Help identifying 2 optics

SO, I just one of the len's in the above thread infront of a NUG06 with Gball
lens still attached, and not focused to infinity like some members have found

url]

I was amazed with the result.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before: The NUG06 Gball lens isn't focused to Infinity

After: A much better focused beam to infinifty with what looks to be a better dot profile and a denser beam.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Lens i experimented with is quite small, ~5.5mm diameter, and appears to be a 2element (i see two lens's glued together)
And it appears to possibly be AR coated for the ~405-450nm range
I believe from the help of previous comments, these lens's came from a BDR sled, which one im not sure.

ANYONE else have access to one of these, or can verify my results?. this could be a very easy, cheap alternative to the cylindrical lens sets we have all been dropping ~$40+ on, or beam expanders!!

Cheers

Re: #UPDATED Pics, NUG06/Multimode correction-Interesting Find# Help identifying 2 op

I know many NUBM06 that produces a half square to a line works well with a 3X beam expander from sanwu. I just use a emptied out 3 element lens barrel and a spacer, can be washers or a nut, whatever you have just to keep the lens barrel from bottoming out into the GBall can.

This is a NUBM06 with it's GBall intact and it burns well.

Here is another NUBM06 with it's GBall lens intact and it has a nice 455nm looking color, maybe from a later lot? But it works well with just the 3X beam expander from sanwu

----edit----

The 2 on the left look like old A series lenses from the 24 diode blocks, the bonded pair look like part of what's in a 3 element along with a spacer and a thin single element.

Here's a short thread about GBalls> http://laserpointerforums.com/f49/h...good-g-2-do-you-agree-100452.html#post1473774
