Help a neewb to get started

hi, I just bought a soldering iron last week and I can't decide on what to build first, I still don't have much parts needed and I will have to buy a ton of them on ebay. I would love to build a headphone amp and I love audio/visual gadgets... Could you intrigue me with some easy projects for a noob like me?

Can I solder SMD, I'm looking at my old card reader, it has a 0603 LED, it's really small.
I only have a 30W soldering iron withut controllable temperature and a fat tip, I'm looking to buy some replacement tips amongst other things I'm planning to buy. And I'm going to buy some more solder... I'm reading on SMD soldering and I keep bumping into all sorts of expensive equipment... I don't really have money for all of those.

If you can't afford to buy the most basic of electronics tools, maybe you should stay out of electronics until you get some money. At least stay away from SMD for now.

You're right. Thank goodness I don't need SMD for lasers though.
