Hi everyone, thanks for this amazing resource! I doubt I'll be around much but just wanted to thank the folks who've taken the time to post such awesome stuff here, especially about safety. I was thinking about a laser project and had some rather grandiose ideas... until I read some of the stuff here about laser safety. Realized I was NOT ready to own anything above 5 mw, and even that deserves respect and thoughtful use. Might have saved me some eye damage from flippant use of something a lot of people, myself included, don't really thoroughly understand.

In case anyone was wondering, this was the 'grandiose idea'. Huge trekkie, and this looked super fun. Maybe one day, with more experience with safety and laser capabilities.

There are several members who are Star Trek fans and have built Phaser models with lasers diodes installed to simulate a phaser firing.
