I come for your knowledge of lasers and burning! I mean, hi...I'm new
It looks like there are a lot of good guides on building burning lasers here. I have a bunch of broken dvd burners, so maybe I can make them do something cool.

Welcome to the Forum!!!

Lots of good info and people here!!

If your dead DVD burners are 16X or greater, you should be in buisness.

Lot's of good reading on the harvesting of Diodes from DVD burners in the experiments and Mod area!

Welcome again!!

thanks everyone!

LarryQ, I have two sony 16X dual layer! Does the dual layer mean an even more powerful diode or is that more based on the speed. Is there a way to look up what sort of diode a particular model of burner uses?

Hey and welcome to the forum. Dual layer means you will get 2 diodes out of it. A Red and a IR.
The speed usually means more power.

Yes, I did get two diodes. Will the infra red diode be at burning power too, even if it isn't a visible beam?

No, the IR diode of a cd burner is not powerfull enough to burn anything AFAIK.
Besides that IR safety goggles seem to be expensive (compared to green or red goggles)
