This was my first sad attempt at building a laser. i now think it would have been more worth while to flush the money down the toilet
So I purchased two hosts (msv4) off of a member on LPF.
I bought 1 405nm with microboost from dtr as well as a 638nm with flex drive, with leads and all attached.
I first attempted the 405 which i first had a tough time fitting in the module (press fit) and I mashed up the module so the lens will no longer fit. So after I fix all of that and I attach the contact board, I pop in a brand new fully charged battery. I become pleasantly surprised that it turns right on without issue. Used it multiple times that night. Fast forward to the following morning (today) I push in the click to turn it on and NOTHiNG. So I twist off the tail cap and instantly get burnt by the spring on the cap which is very warm, but surprisingly the battery wasn't that hot. Emanating from the laser is a burning electronic smell. So I'm thinking the driver is done for?
For the 638nm is a very similar story. Except for this one it never worked at all, I have it all hooked up, I put in a new battery and all that happens is a not very loud but high pitch sound(the driver again?) and the same exact smell as the other. If I clicked it again it would make that same sound. So obviously I knew to leave it alone and I imagined it was done for.
So could I replace the drivers and get them working again? But if its the driver then what is with the tail cap spring problem? That doesn't seem right to me..
