Hard Numbers on the NUBM44-81 ?

As some of you may or not know the NUBM44 diode has gone through a revision to NUBM44-81 from the superseded NUBM44-71, I've read that some people have reported the the new NUBM44-81 may have a power output of 8 watts plus at 4.5 amps, Has anybody been able to confirm this with some power meter readings ???

I'm convinced the the new NUBM44-81 is a sizable amount stronger from the way it ignites certain plastics that it didn't before the revision. :thinking:

Nice, I just got one in from DTR, are all his NUBM44's that he sells in his Google store now the -81 version? I would like to order another for a side by side double build I want to try.

I'm ordering lenses and some more of those TV camera zoom optics, I will probably try the 3D printed lens holder to make sliding beam expanders, could be nice, I just hope I don't burn any AR coatings, but we shall see.

Yes it is, The older nubm44s I was getting from the Vee-Twos were hitting around 7-7.5, but with the newer ones from the VeeEff(20)XN (don't need that company googling the number) I've been getting seem to be hovering around 8, at 4.5a as well, and my LPM is reading the same with other lasers I have.
 
Same divergence right, likely is the same divergence, their manufacturing methods and efficiency improves all the time, it's the evolution in progress, I love it.

Looks like some coating, but I could use the diodes raw output as long as I can keep the diode window clean.

I don't think any of the lenses inside the camera lenses have AR coatings because they would need to be very broad wave length coatings so the color pallet wouldn't get skewed going through the cam lens ?

None of the lenses i recovered from my cam lenses seemed to have AR coatings on them but i'm not sure about that ???

The divergence seems about the same......

I can hardly wait for the new NUBM44-101 10 watt revision to come out ! lol

As far as I can tell, seems the same to me, but I haven't done a side by side using the same exact lens yet.

Edit - Just one question, Why does the graph look like the power output didn't go above 8,000mw ?

I have a bunch of working 44's they are tough diodes, these are just some of my daily drivers, yes I got carried away with the mx-900 host, it's so easy to build.

We can rein in the divergence, I like having a sturdy diode to beat up on and I do run them pretty warm, so if this line gets better and better that's ok with me.

But better sooner would be nice because I have half a dozen more besides these.

So why keep building singles, well lack of commitment I suppose.
But think about it, if I cube combined 2 x corrected 44's next to 2 other cube combined 44's and knife edged the 2 x 15 watt beams into a big homemade BE, sounds like fun and a bit of work, it's also 4 diodes in modules with G2 lenses and drivers 4 x 130.00 so 520, then 4 pairs of 6X cyls because I need to correct each beam straight away, so another 200.00 now were at 720.00 plus the pbs and 2 wave plates and mirrors, also 2 host tubes and 6 x 26650 IMR cells, it's about a 1000 dollars to cobble together a maybe 30 watt, I would rather buy an 800 dollar projector with one 35 watt diode in it, so...do you have a time machine I can borrow?

Dam i really miss having a full shop with a milling machine, lath, and a OD grinder with a 12in silicon carbide wheel ! :cryyy: There wasn't anything i couldn't make back then.......
 
So do I , I build things like a 3rd world peasant, but I am more after the function than the form.
Shops I've worked at have 5 axis CNC's and huge manual mills, lathes, press breaks, band saws, hell I am working with a rock a hammer and a screwdriver, and my screwdriver is bent.

I miss my tow truck, I miss being able to drive one of my for sale cars, now I buy them like everyone else, I don't even have an engine hoist anymore, but I have a come along and a stack of 2 x 12's spanning the rafters in my garage ;)

But I digress, love the extra 20% +

Come on folks, let's see those LPM charts! I want to see who has the highest number in NUBM47 diodes!
 
The VEE one has 7 of the 44's 2700LM
The Vee two has 8 of the 44's 3000LM
The onetenw has ten of the 47's it's printed on the block as nub*44-47 3500LM
Now the ***20 has this nub*44-81 3300LM


They are all 44's with a -XX code

So my question is how many diodes in the 20 unit? If it's 8 and the rating is 3300Lm then the diodes are being driven harder or have been improved.

Barnetts said he got higher output from the 47's but I don't believe him because he chilled them before testing and put them very close to his thermopile and didn't mention the pre chilling until later, fact is he paid too much and wanted to tout the 47 as something special, a trusted member tested and said they were the same as the standard 44....however over time they may have improved, my speculation is the maker fixes flaws or discovers new tricks to get more efficiency along the run of a diodes production life, this could happen anywhere along the way, anyway I have only personally been made aware of those 2 power tests and 1 other by Rick Trent ( I think that's who it was ) who was getting 7 watts but I don't remember if it was the 44 or 47, I think it was the later runs of 44's that he got 7 watts from.

Sometimes they drive the diodes a bit harder, they have headroom because as they wear over 20,000 hours the machine turns up the current, I think it's just evolution of production and improvements in durability hence the fold back is higher. That's my speculation, I think the -xx is just a production run denotation and 81's are newer and as such tougher.

EDIT

I bet the maker studies their own freaks under a scope and sees what makes them better, then they alter the process to make them all that way and so on.
