So I was at my buddies house in the backyard sitting around the fire eating ribs and chicken and I wiped my 50mW green laser out and started shining it through the smoke/into the sky. As I was doing so, I saw airplane lights in the distance(not directly where I was pointing it but close enough) so to be safe I just shined it in the woods and turned it off. About 15 minutes went by when I heard a helicopter in the distance. Now I've seen many videos on YouTube with people shining lasers at helicopters/planes so in the back of mind I'm thinking "I hope I didn't hit a plane earlier."

So the heli is getting closer and closer, flying directly at us when I notice the spotlight is on and shining in front of it. Now at this point my heart is pounding and I'm wondering what to do; do I keep the laser on me and tell the truth, throw it somewhere no one will find it, or get in my car and drive home? Well the heli flies directly above us and thankfully keeps going. After about a minute my heart rate drops and I start to breath again and with a sigh of relief, I tell my buddies why I was so tense for those past few minutes

Just figured I'd share this quick story, it's one of those things that happens and then afterwards you're like "Not doing that again!", even if you did nothing wrong/on purpose

Anyone else have any close encounters like this?

Unless you got a direct hit on it at relatively close range, I doubt the helicopter had anything to do with it. Sounds like another case of post hoc.

Yea I figured the heli didn't have anything to do with it after it passed over but I was still paranoid after seeing those vids. I was told they pass over the house a lot because there's a hospital near bye or something.

And what do you mean by "post hoc"?

I hate spending like 5 minutes combing the sky to make sure there is no planes. Then as soon as i turn on my laser one comes in view...

I would highly doubt they would know it was you unless the heli was right on you when you did it. Could be anyone in the area.

I signed up for this forum, and one person signed up after me. It MUST be because of my unfathomable awesomeness.

Post hoc

:DD
