So after reading various stickies on LPF I have found that introductions are expected of new members. So here I am. Let's see, a little about myself. Well like many new members I ended up here after hearing about Wicked Lasers. I really want to have a high powered laser, but I tend to lean towards a DIY approach with electronics and decided to learn how to build one myself. Plus, learning to build one would be much cheaper. Yes, I have been using that search function and as soon as I get some extra cash I'll be on my way to building one :D I just need to proper safety glasses first. I actually finished my first laser project not to long ago which included a 1mw red laser pointer (the ones you get from an ice cream truck) that was used to transmit music.

A little more about me. I'm 21 and reside in Southern California. I'm currently working and going to college. I have had some experience with electronics before I got into lasers. I'm familiar with soldering and many other basic electrical components. My spare time is occupied by building and programming new Arduino projects, learning to program in Python for the Raspberry Pi, gaming, and messing with my friends 3d printer. So I hope this was a decent intro. I really look forward to being a respected member of the LPF community. :-)

Hi and welcome from down under. Great welcome post and with a name like tackyonflux you must be a Star trek Fan ,of which i am one as well.

Sorry for the late response. But thanks to all of those who greeted me and to any other members who greet me as well. :D

@Blaster Yes I am a little bit of a Star Trek fan or almost anything Scifi related. :)

Welcome fellow California, I too am pretty new to the site. You may have picked up on this already but the search function on the top of the page doesn't yield as many pertinent results as the google search bar found at the bottom of the page. I couldn't find threads I new I had already viewed until I used the google bar.

Welcome! Since when do ice cream trucks sell laser pointers? Haha good luck with your first build!

Cool on the Star trek. I have every movie ,series etc complete, except only about half of the original Captain Kirk Star trek episodes.

Welcome to the forum buddy. :D have fun.. be safe. Protect your balls!
As a reasonable safe first pair of goggles these are good: item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?sbk=1&nav=SEARCH&itemId=261097357938

They are cheap enough you can buy multiple pairs so people can join you in your laser adventure! :P
The arms are a bit crap, but the lens is a good and solid. Made of coloured plastic...not coated with coloured film like some.. anyways.
Peace and lasers dude!

Lim

@Laserinmypocket i noticed that thanks for the heads up! :)

@SerpantSlayer It was one of those really cheap keychain laser pointers that are usually gold colored and come with some extra filter heads for pictures. I remember this from when i was a kid. I don't know if they still sell them. The one i got was from ebay. And thanks! But i might actually buy one first from one of the sellers on LPF. :D

@Blaster I'm curious, is star trek the reason you got into lasers? Or was it something else?

@MajorLim Thanks :D Ill definitely pick up a couple of these for my friends. I still have my eyes set on getting one of those eagle pair goggles for some future 1w blue laser i plan on having. :)

All I remember getting from the ice cream truck were candy cigarettes! Best to go with sellers from LPF for quality!
