Hopefully that works.

Mac- In high school I got into photography because my friend and I got bored one night, and started taking long exposure pictures. From there I just took thousands of them, and got pretty good at learning how to take pictures with exposures ranging from 30 seconds to minutes. I bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT when I graduated, and I've since purchased an IR remote for the camera. I leave the camera in BULB for the shutter speed, and whatever F-stop I think works best (some point and shoots have the option to control exposure, though most don't let you do bulb, I bought one that lets me, but has no way to do it without holding the button down for the whole exposure...). If you're interested in these kinds of photos, I think the best way to start is to take pictures of stars. Long exposures of stars always make really neet pictures, and they help you learn how longer exposures works. Here's a picture of some stars, the camera is pointed at the north star so that the star trails will be in rings around it.

my question was how you make the seismograph :p, but thanks for the info in long exposure

i've made a simple tunnel from a pc fan and mirror, and have a red laser show, so dont really need to make shapes, the spider is impressive though, well it all is, i cheat when making objects by using the heads off red laser pointers, the ones that have many different things like bikini women and christmass trees. it still amazes me how they can etch something so small and sell them for pennies.

Mac- Check out The BoomDog's guide on basic laser show tips Here's his website.

I made my design based on what he has posted for the spirograph. I consider mine a prototype because I think it's ugly, and the motors don't go slow enough for me to make some really cool shapes, so I'm going to try to improve my design when I have a large enough block of free time. Right now I'm trying to get a new job, because I hate my current one. We have new management, and they've made work a hassle for me, and I have to deal with children, and grumpy parents... so I'm trying to find something where I can peacefully play with semicondutors, and I can convince them that they should work right for me. Sorry for the spiel... I just had a rough day at work, and I need to vent, lol. I'm applying online to places as I type this... but that too is a hassle...

yew.sir-name- Diffraction gratings sure are fun! It'd be really cool if a laser company would let people make their own designs, I know I'd have a cartoon version of myself as a diffraction grating made up, cuz that would be awesome! It seems like you have a much larger collection of the gratings than I do, the ones I have only the soccer ball is worth anything to me... I didn't get any binki women :'( I guess the turtle one I have is kinda cool too...
