(plus i didnt think of it) :P

soo many batteries in one altiods box... :-/ if your using all CR123's, make sure not to drop your laser in a fire ;D

I would suggest using 3 10440's. then those 3 would power all the circuits. use one of the 10440's for the green.

ahhh i see... thats convienient! and space saving!! :) thanks! :P, sorry, still learning :-/

lolz, I've been there (and in some cases I still am :P )

it does have a driver... yay, the part im most scared of is already done, the driver(for the green 1 at least)

yay, that is great, this means that all i need to make a green laaser in an altoids gum can is that laser module a switch.and a battery holder! i could make some $$ selling these to my friends, and yes, it would be more fun to make it in the can than it wouldbe be to buy 1 for the same price, and it would have a custom look!

ok, heres 2 ideas....

is there a way to make this close to a 100% duty cycle, like if i somehow made a heatsink to fill the front of the can, after all, it is only 5mw :-?

you shouldn't have to worry about duty cycles, its a 5mW as you say. just dont let the pump diode get too hot.

There are problems with selling these to friends:

10440's aren't protected (at least the ones DX sells aren't). if one were to vent in your fiends face, you would have a funeral to attend to, and a lawsuit.

liability issues. its a 5mW green. you technically shouldn't point anything over 1mW near your eye.

DX shipping times: make sure to build the laser first then take the money.

TIP: don't use an altiods can. doesn't look professional. use a plastic enclosure, like the ones sold at Radio Shack. or, you could just buy 10mW DX greenies and sell those (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7416), those are the same price, less hassle, and look cooler!

amk

ya, i would use the aaa plan, and my friends like the altoids can, plus, i have taught them lots about laser safety, and seeing that this is only 5mw, they wouldnt really need eye protection 8-), but thanks for the tips ;)!, i am also considering using these in flashlights also :D, but ya, if i didnt know for sure that they liked the altoids cans, then i wouldnt do it, seeing as they are kinda flimsy :P, but again, thanks :)

edit- and it would be cool to say that you made it

who ever said you didn't manufacture green 10mW pointers in your garage ;D ;)

good luck! and be safe! make their parents and them sign a release of liability waiver. you never know...

ha, lol, one of them owns a red burner :P, which is really the one i was talking about even though i said friends, and the other one is pretty smart, he wouldnt go seeing how long he can shine it in his eye, lol, but ya, u never know how crazy some people are, getting sued would be very bad ;)
