So, my GGW diode came in yesterday (thanks, Hightechdealz!) and I was thusly able to put together my pocket mini kit that's been sitting around. The kit went together smoothly, taking just under two hours to put together (actually, a lot of that time went towards trying to bridge the resistors on the Flex Drive. I finally just soldered a bit of tinned wire across them.) The current is set at 208 ma, mostly because that's what my driver metered when I tested it, and I couldn't find a drewscriver small enough to turn that damn microscopic pot. (Seriously, can someone point me towards one?) It has the copper heatsink option, and a 405-G-1 lens. Burns like a sonofabitch:)

Thanks go to jayrob for and excellent kit and outstanding customer service. Also, thanks to the folks at Hightechdealz. My diode came properly pressed into the Aixiz module, and the solder on the pins was proof of a no-heat extraction. The GITD lens cap was a pleasant surprise, too!

Beamshots are with smoke added. The color is violet, of course (can't wait til we get those high-powered blue diodes on the cheap!)

awesome, i might be building the exact same one exept without the 405-G-1 because ran out of money :( From what iv seen most people run their 6x in the 190-198mA range but i dont know why they do instead of an even 200.

Bijeebus-
lower current = longer diode life
also might have to do with jumpers, 198 might be the max with 1 jumper configuration. Switching to a different jumper for 5mA probably isn't worth it.

Props for a great build, it looks real nice :)

nice job:D
now you have a blue and a red... only green to go.:beer:lol
what type of duty cycle have you been running it at?

See ya

I have a cheap green. I'll have to research a nice one.

As for duty cycle, I'd say a minute on (roughly, and usually much less,) off until room temp again. I mostly go on instinct. I've only just barely got it warm so far. I'm probably being paranoid, but hey, I want it to last.

Most of what I use it for (fluorescing stuff, optical trapping, etc.) doesn't require long run times.

lol :) i was close right?

is optical trapping cool? I read about it once but never tried it.:yabbem:

Well, damn. The 6x just did the LED thing :( Five days? Didn't take long. . .

Pocket Mini now has a PHR in it. Thinking seriously about a 12x. . .

Nice build, very unfortunate that it died in only 5 days :(...
May I ask how much you paid for all the parts (6x)?

sorry about the 6x :cryyy:
ask kendall if he can send you a replacement since you had to of have hooked it up correctly, were using a low duty cycle, and proper heatsinking.
good luck,
